Working in collage is mesmerizing. I'm not sure why. I experience collage-making like thinking in pictures. I observe myself making choices about the image and wonder about my aesthetic choices. Is it just what looks good on that particular surface, or is there a message straining to get out? For whom is the message? I don't know until I have walked away for a while, a day or more, sometimes years. I ignore my unconscious a lot because I don't like to hear what it has to say.

Mississippi Dreamer came out of my fascination with the flooding river. I could not understand why people seemed unprepared or surprised. She has changed her path in the past many times. Why not again. We ignore nature's messages just like I ignore my unconscious.

Bandaid Madonna with a diatom halo. I hope for her intervention. She tends to be more forgiving than God the Father. On the other hand, if she were a tiger mother maybe humanity would learn faster.
